I created this site to share stories about my dad’s family after a search expanding over 40 years. His ancestry was especially difficult since he was adopted when he was two years of age. What little he knew of his biological family was through his adopted parents, and when he attempted to find out who his real father and mother were, the bureaucratic system would not allow him access to his adoption records. Were it not for some wonderful people in Wisconsin’s Health Department and the advent of DNA to assist us in our search, we would still be in the dark. We were finally successful in getting his adoption records unsealed in 2000, when our father was 87 years old. But even these official documents didn’t provide the real truth. It would take another 19 years to unravel the rest of the story. Our journey had taken many tortuous paths before we finally reached our destination. There are undoubtedly more paths that need to be explored before we can say with certainty that this story is complete.
An overview of William F. Bhirdo’s ancestry can be found by selecting his name on the menu bar. This section will provide additional information on individual family members and evidence that supports our claims of heritage.
I am hoping others who share our family names will assist in this project so we can try to reconstruct our past as best we can. To make this easier I have put a front end writing area that can be accessed after registering and logging in. This area is called Tell Your Story. It is simple to use and you can upload images from your computer or even copy and paste a You Tube URL into the content area. All written topics can be seen by logged in users who can make comments to articles, and who can reply to comments. For the more adventurous I can even give you your own website similar to this one, or, if you are an experienced WordPress designer, more themes are open to you. the chart below shows four generations of family names from the five children of Marion F. Bhirdo, nee Marion Francis Krych and Stella Jean Ivanowski. Marion F. Krych and Stella Jean Ivanowski are Generation 1.
I am not a WordPress expert and struggle with everything I do, but will try to help anyone the best way I can. I promise I will not share emails or any private conversations with others unless you permit me to do so. This is not a business for me – it is my passion and I would like to collaborate, or just provide space to others who share that passion.
Our Family Tree, accessible on the menu, shows all the family names our family is descended from. There are two adopted families involved, the family name we use: Bhirdo, which was given to us by our adopted grandparents, and Krych the family name of those who took in our dad’s mother, my grandmother. The locations where these families lived were: Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, but the families originated in Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana, Massachusetts and Poland.
If you are interested in sharing your stories and thoughts using the Tell Your Story feature, please select the Category from the drop down that best describes which family you are writing about. There is also a Tags selection where you can put in other names, including your own. Categories and Tags are needed to keep things organized.
If you need more information please use the Contact selection on the menu to get in touch with me. Happy hunting.
